Mollie integration & automation

European payment methods connected straight to the order that's waiting on them

Mollie is a Dutch payment system built around the payment methods European buyers actually use. We connect it to your store or CRM so a finished payment updates the order on its own, and we choose the safest way to give access for the task — never handing out one all-purpose key where a narrower, revocable connection will do.

What we connect

  • A confirmed payment can update an order's status on its own, instead of someone checking Mollie by hand and typing the result in.
  • Access can be set up four different ways depending on the task — from a narrow key tied to one store, to a broader connection covering the whole organization, to a revocable sign-in style link for an app acting on a client's behalf.
  • Mollie itself recommends against handing out a permanent key to outside tools and prefers the revocable sign-in style link instead — so that's the way we connect anything built by someone other than your own team.
  • A key's secret value is shown only once, right when it's created, so we capture and store it safely at that exact moment.
  • How many requests a connection can send isn't one fixed number for everyone — Mollie calculates it per business, based on that business's own regular traffic.
  • There's built-in room for a short burst above the usual pace — a sudden flurry of orders doesn't get treated as abuse on its own.
  • If a connection does go over its allowance, Mollie states exactly how many seconds to wait before the next request slot opens.

Automation scenarios

01

A payment comes in

Before staff checks Mollie's dashboard and updates the order by hand.

After the confirmed payment updates the order status on its own.

02

An outside app needs to connect on a client's behalf

Before handing over one permanent key to every outside tool is a real risk if it ever leaks.

After a revocable sign-in style link — Mollie's own recommendation — is used instead, so access can be cut off without touching anything else.

03

Sales spike for a short while

Before a sudden rush of orders risks being flagged and blocked as if it were abuse.

After built-in room for short bursts means a temporary spike isn't treated as a problem on its own.

04

The connection sends too many requests at once

Before no clear idea of when it's safe to try again.

After Mollie states exactly how many seconds to wait, so the next attempt is timed precisely instead of guessed.

How it works technically

For those who want to check: each point links to the official documentation page it comes from.

  • Mollie offers four ways to authorize a connection: a key tied to one store, a broader key for the whole organization, a revocable sign-in style link for apps acting on a client's behalf, and a basic sign-in check just for issuing or cancelling those.

  • A key's secret value is shown only once, at the exact moment it's created, so it has to be saved safely right away.

  • Mollie itself recommends not handing a permanent key to outside tools, and using the revocable sign-in style link instead.

  • How many requests per second a connection can send isn't fixed for everyone — Mollie works it out individually per business, based on that business's real traffic.

  • There's built-in room for short traffic bursts above the usual pace, so a temporary spike isn't automatically treated as abuse.

Limits

Mollie calculates the request ceiling individually per business rather than using one number for everyone, and the feature is still rolling out gradually — it may not yet be visible on every account.

How to start

Three steps from a first message to work on your project.

  1. 01

    Leave a request

Describe the task in the form — in text or by voice. Budget and timing are optional.

  2. 02

    We review and estimate

A developer studies the brief, asks about anything unclear and sends an estimate.

  3. 03

    We start

Once scope and price are agreed, the work begins.

Questions

How does Mollie tell our store that a payment came through?
A confirmed payment can update the order's status on its own, instead of staff checking Mollie's dashboard by hand.
What's the safest way to connect an outside app?
A revocable sign-in style link, which is what Mollie itself recommends instead of handing out a permanent key.
Will a sudden rush of orders get us blocked?
Not automatically — there's built-in room for short bursts above the usual pace before anything is treated as a problem.
Is the request limit the same for every business?
No — Mollie calculates it individually per business based on real traffic, not one fixed number for everyone.
